The secret’s out

Campus exhibitions feature ‘secrets,’ MFA students and an alumnus’s art collection A new student-organized exhibition, “Secrets Revealed = Secrets Shared,” takes the innermost private thoughts of participating citizen artists and brings them out into the open at the UI’s Krannert Art Museum. On view through May 13, the exhibition features all manner of secret thoughts – submitted anonymously and creatively conveyed through text and images. Inspired by Frank Warren’s Web site, www.postsecret.com and related book, the UI exhibition was curated by Jennifer Kitchka, a theater student majoring in scenic design.

Also on view now through April 29 at the museum is the annual Master of Fine Arts Exhibition, featuring the final efforts of this year’s class of graduates. Always revealing in its own sense, the exhibition showcases students artistic development in such areas sas photography, industrial design, sculpture, painting, narrative media, metals, ceramics and graphic design. Opening April 20 and running through July 29 is “An Architect Collects: Robert D. Kleinschmidt and A Lifetime of Fine Arts Acquisitions.” The exhibition and accompanying catalog feature works from the collection of the UI alum and Chicago-based architect. Artists represented in Kleinschmidt’s collection include Jasper Johns, Robert Motherwell and Frank Stella.
