Assistant secretary of the U.S. Treasury to speak Tuesday

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Richard H. Clarida, assistant secretary of the U.S. Treasury Department, will give a lecture on “The United States in the World Economy” Tuesday (Nov. 19) at the College of Commerce and Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The lecture will begin at 5 p.m. in 141 Wohlers Hall, 1206 S. Sixth St., Champaign.

Clarida began serving in the treasury department last January after being nominated for the post by President George W. Bush. Clarida’s office is responsible for the review and analysis of international and domestic economic issues as well as financial markets.

Before joining the Bush administration, Clarida was the chairman of the economics department at Columbia University.

Clarida earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at Illinois in 1979, then received both his master’s and doctorate in economics at Harvard University.

The lecture is free and open to the campus community and public. It is co-sponsored by CBA and the Illinois Department of Economics.
