Applications for the Paul D. Doolen Graduate Scholarship for the Study of Aging due Feb. 4

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. Applications are available for the 16th annual Paul D. Doolen Graduate Scholarship for the Study of Aging, sponsored by the Retirement Research Foundation.

Two graduate students, one from the biological-biomedical sciences and the other from the behavioral-social sciences, will each receive a $3,500 scholarship for the 2002-2003 academic year. The award will be given to students whose principal scholarly interest is in the field of aging. Students who hold an assistantship or fellowship will receive priority consideration for the award.

The Retirement Research Foundation uses the award to stimulate and support interest in the biological or sociological aspects of aging or treatment diseases of the elderly. Last years applicants came from diverse curricula such as animal sciences, nursing research, community health-gerontology, and health policy and administration.

The current holders of the Doolen scholarships are two students from the Champaign-Urbana campus: Matthew Hartman, a student in the medical scholars and animal science programs, and Gerald Jerome, a doctoral student in exercise psychology.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 4, 2002. Applications can be obtained from the University Office for Academic Policy Analysis, 807 S. Wright St., Suite 370, Champaign, IL 61820. For more information, call (217) 333-2030.
