Alston selected for ACE Fellows Program

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Kal Alston, the director of the women’s studies program and professor of educational policy studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been selected for the 2003-04 American Council on Education Fellows Program.

Established in 1965, the program is designed to strengthen institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing faculty and staff members for senior positions in college and university administration.

As one of the council’s 38 Fellows, Alston will take part in seminars and interactive learning programs, and will be placed at another higher education institution to condense years of on-the-job experience and skills development into a single semester or year. Alston will work with a college or university president and other senior officers at the host institution.

Fellows also engage in leadership and management activities to enhance their knowledge about the challenges and opportunities confronting higher education.

The council, the major coordinating body for higher education in the United States, seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and influence public policy through advocacy, research and program initiatives.
