Advanced Material Characterization Workshop June 7-8

The Frederick Seitz Materials Research Laboratory will host the 10th annual Advanced Materials Characterization Workshop at the Urbana campus June 7-8. This workshop provides a critical, comparative and condensed overview of major analytical techniques for materials characterization with emphasis on practical applications.

Sessions cover basic and advanced topics geared toward both novice and experienced scientists. Topics include: atomic force microscopy and nano-indentation, optical spectroscopy, microscopy and surface analysis.

The workshop will focus on problem-solving strategies, resolution requirements and potential artifacts in data collection and analysis. Several walk-through examples from various fields will be demonstrated, and there also will be a session on sample preparation and analysis of biological materials.

Tutorial sessions are presented by Materials Research Laboratory staff scientists with more than 20 years of hands-on experience in materials characterization. Informative sessions about new techniques will be presented by industrial scientists.

Registration for the two-day workshop is $75 and includes all sessions, a vendors’ exhibit show, first-day evening networking reception, breakfast, refreshments during breaks and lunches.
