Howard C. Roberts
Howard C. Roberts, professor emeritus of engineering, died Oct. 29 at Littleton,
Colo. He was 85.
Roberts received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the UI. He was
a professor of engineering at the UI from 1946 until he retired in 1968.
He also taught architectural acoustics at the UI and also from 1979 to 1982
at the University of Colorado, Denver. He was an independent consultant
in noise control and in precision measurement.
He was the author of several books and many technical papers and held several
patents. He was a fellow in the American Association for the Advancement
of Science and the Instrument Society of America. He was a member of Sigma
Xi and the Institute of Noise Control Engineers.
Roberts moved to Colorado in 1977. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth,
and two daughters.
Helen Barrymore
Helen Louise Barrymore,formerly an editor at the UI , died Nov. 17 at the
Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana. She was 88.
Barrymore was an editor at the National Clearinghouse for Criminal Justice
at the UI. She retired in 1976.
She graduated from Loretto Academy in Chicago in 1926 and attended De Paul
University in Chicago.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Urbana, the C-U Symphony
Guild and the UI Alumni Association.
Survivors include a daughter, two sons and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Patrick Catholic Education
Foundation.
