New head of pathology approved

The UI Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Patricia J.
O'Morchoe as head of the department of pathology in the College
of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign at its Oct. 20 meeting.

She succeeds Benjamin Williams, who retired.

O'Morchoe, who received undergraduate, graduate and medical
degrees from Trinity College, Dublin University, Ireland, has
been on the faculty of the UI's medical college since 1980. Most
recently, she has served as professor and associate head of
pathology and physician surgeon. She also holds appointments as
professor of cell and structural biology in the School of Life
Sciences, and professor of veterinary pathobiology in the College
of
Veterinary Medicine.

Before coming to the UI, O'Morchoe taught at Loyola University
Stitch School of Medicine; Harvard Medical School at Peter Bent
Brigham Hospital and Johns Hopkins University.
