A new 10-week course for office support personnel will begin Oct. 5. The pilot course, Professional Office Procedures, is the result of recommendations by a 14-member Office Curriculum Advisory Committee who met with representatives of the Office of Human Resource Development. Among the topics to be covered in the class are UI structure and internal procedures; office politics and ethics; written and oral communications; telephone procedures and etiquette; serving students, faculty and staff; professional conduct and confidentiality; cost-effectiveness; time and stress management; and understanding chain-of-command and internal policies. Each three-hour session will include a variety of activities, such as guest speakers, field trips, case studies and role playing, and textbook exercises. Upon completion of the class, each participant will receive a framed certificate of completion. The registration fee is $199. To register or to receive more information, call the Office of Human Resources Development at 333-8342.
