Corey Mullens, a sophomore from St. Charles, stocks the shelves in preparation for Monday's opening of the new Illini Union Bookstore, located at 809 S. Wright St., Champaign. In addition to textbooks, the new store will offer general-interest books, calendars and other items previously sold at the Illini Union Book Center. Robert Mindrum, interim director of the Illini Union, said the new store is "about a third larger than the old combined facility, and will roughly double the number of trade books offered." The first three floors of the building are devoted to book sales, and the top three floors will house university and campus administrative offices. Workers are concentrating on putting the final touches on the bookstore, said Jeff Schrader, assistant director of the Office of Facility Planning and Management. The administrative suites are expected to be completed by mid-September, he said. Units moving to the new building this fall are: Facility Planning and Management, University Office for Capital Programs, and University Office for Academic Policy Analysis, third floor; Office of Academic Human Resources, Benefits Center and Student Insurance, and the office of the Associate Vice President for Administration and Human Resources, fourth floor; News Bureau and Office of Publications, fifth floor.
