Improvising

UI dance professor Kirstie Simson, above, has transformed the galleries of the Krannert Art Museum into an unexpected dance space for improvisational dance on select Thursday evenings this fall. Simson, dance instructor Philip Johnston and student dancers, accompanied by a small musical ensemble, have been presenting a series of fresh and free-flowing dance programs within the ethereal installations making up the exhibition “The World of Yugen: Japanese Paper Artworks by Kyoko Ibe.”

On Oct. 2, Japan House director Kimiko Gunji will conduct a tea ceremony within the installation. The next, and final, improvisational dance performance is set for 5:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 9. Both events are free and open to the public.
