Anywhere
is ‘walking distance’
Hundreds of people of all ages joined grand marshals Chancellor
Richard Herman and his wife, Susan, for a 2,650-step stroll around
campus on Oct. 14 as part of the “2005 Walk Toward Wellness.”
Modeled on the “10,000 Steps a Day” program originated
by Yashiro Hatano, who also attended (photo at right), the event
kicked off a campuswide initiative promoting the health benefits
of walking and was part of a three-day national conference on
walking hosted by the UI and the American College of Sports Medicine. |
