Joseph W. Cobb, 75, died Dec. 21 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Cobb retired from the UI in 1996 as an electronics engineer at the Beckman Institute after 33 years. Memorials: House of Refuge, Brocton.

William Eng, 85, died Jan. 8 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Eng was a UI professor of architecture, retiring in 1989 as professor emeritus.

Geraldine “Geri” Rogers Evans,
81, died Dec. 30 at Wellington Retirement Home, Richardson, Texas. Evans was a secretary in the elementary education program in the College of Education, retiring in 1988. Memorials: Geraldine Evans Memorial, University of Illinois Foundation, Harker Hall, 1305 W. Green St., MC-386.

Pearl Goodman, 81, died Jan. 8 at Clark-Lindsey Village, Urbana. Goodman was an instructor at the UI, mainly in the Division of English as an International Language, for 32 years, retiring in 1993. Memorials: Women’s Network for a Sustainable Future, c/o Kathy Robb, Hunton & Williams, LLP, 200 Park Ave., 43rd Floor, New York, NY 10166.

James Knell, 64, died Dec. 24 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Knell worked at the UI for 25 years, retiring in 1998 as a bindery worker foreman for Printing Services. Memorials: American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Carlos Perez-Manzano,
87, died Dec. 29 at North Ridge Medical and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc, Wis. Perez-Manzano was assistant professor of health sciences and staff physician at McKinley Health Center. Memorials: Rahr-West Museum Foundation; the Manitowoc Symphony Orchestra Foundation; or the Manitowoc Public Library Foundation.

David Lee Roth, 46, died Jan. 10 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Roth was a laboratory animal technician I at the UI College of Veterinary Medicine. Memorials: American Cancer Society or United Methodist Church, Mansfield.

Janice Thea Small,
74, died Dec. 26 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Small retired from the UI College of Education in 1996. She was a staff secretary for 25 years. Memorials: Hume Christian Church.
Ruby Sons, 89, died Dec. 21 at Eden Village Care Center, Glen Carbon. Sons worked as a veterinary medicine clerk for 11 years leaving the UI in 1973. Memorials: Alzheimer’s Association.

Virginia Gwendolyn Stott Speers, 89, died Dec. 22 at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis. Speers worked at the UI for about 12 years, at the Bureau of Economic and Business Research in the College of Business and later at the UI Press Print Shop and the Institute of Government and Public Affairs. She left the UI in 1970. Memorials: First United Methodist Church of Champaign or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, Box 8111, 660 S. Euclid, St. Louis, MO 63108.

Memorial
Robert Reid, 64, died Dec. 15 at his Champaign home. Reid began teaching journalism at Illinois in 1979 as a visiting lecturer, then joined the journalism faculty as a professor in 1980. He retired for health reasons in fall 2003. A memorial will be held in his honor at 2 p.m. Feb. 5 in Plym Auditorium of Temple Hoyne Buell Hall. A reception will follow in the atrium.
