Being
a better teacher
Lee S. Shulman, president of the Carnegie Foundation for
the Advancement of Learning, was the keynote speaker at
the annual Faculty Retreat on Active Learning held Jan.
27 at Levis Faculty Center. Several Carnegie Scholars spoke
on topics relevant to the theme of "The Scholarship
of Teaching and Learning." Illinois faculty presenters
were Phil Buriak, agricultural engineering, "Your Classroom
as Your Laboratory"; Brian Gaines, political science,
"Detecting and Discouraging Plagiarism"; and Ruth
Yontz, business administration, "Teachers’ Feedback
on Students’ Written Work: What’s Helpful." |
