The Illinois women’s basketball game Jan. 12 was the
backdrop for presenting the Campus Charitable Fund Drive
awards for sections with the highest percent of employee
participation. Three sections were recognized for employee
participation in the fall fund drive. From left, Jack Dempsey,
CCFD chair; Kip Mecum, Division of Operation and Maintenance
(large section) with 45 percent participation; Usha Dhar,
department of statistics (small section) with 100 percent
participation; Chancellor Nancy Cantor; and Jan Schlueter

A
Message from the Chancellor
At the beginning of this year’s Campus Charitable Fund Drive,
we knew that the current state of the economy would have an impact on
our campaign. However, with two years of million-dollar-plus successes
behind us, the campus goal was set at $1 million, and our volunteers
went to work. Once again, our faculty and staff exhibited the compassion
and dedication that truly makes this a caring community.
In spite of tight budgets and a downturn in the economy, our faculty
and staff rallied to help those less fortunate. By the end of the campaign,
our faculty and staff raised $1,084,641, well in excess of our goal.
Each year I marvel at the commitment, dedication and generosity of our
faculty and staff, and each year I am reminded of how privileged and
honored I am to live and work in such a caring community. Thank you
again for your kindness and generosity.
Nancy
Cantor
Chancellor
