Iron
workers guide a beam into place on the roof of the new Thomas
M. Siebel Center for Computer Science, which is under construction
near Stoughton Street and Mathews Avenue in Urbana. The facility
will enable the department of computer science to more than double
its capacity, placing Illinois program among the largest
in the country. The Siebel Center will contain classroom, office
and lab space for more than 70 educators, 1,500 undergraduates
and 500 graduate students. The $80 million construction project
is expected to be substantially completed by July 2003.
