Edward W. Congleton, 78, died Aug. 31 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Congleton was an electrician for the UI from 1967 to 1987. Memorials: Shriners Hospital for Children, 2900 Rockey Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
Alexander Stanley Chodakowski, 89, died Aug. 11 in Venice, Fla. Chodakowski was a professor of electrical engineering from 1946 to 1958.
Louise Crane, 89, died Aug. 1 in Stanardsville, Va. Crane served as outreach coordinator for African Studies at the UI from 1980 until her retirement in 1987. 
Harold Graham Halcrow, 94, died Aug. 13 at Alden Courts of Waterford, Aurora. Halcrow was a professor of agricultural economics at the UI for 25 years, retiring in 1982 as professor emeritus. He also was head of the department from 1957 to 1970. Memorials: Developmental Services Center, 1304 Bradley Ave., Champaign, IL 61820; or The Association for Individual Development, 309 W. New Indian Trail Court, Aurora, IL 60506.
Alfred G. “Al” Harms, 85, died at The Carle Arbours, Savoy. Harms was a professor of farm management-agricultural economics at the UI for 25 years, retiring in 1988 as professor emeritus. He also served as head of the department from 1971 to 1972. Memorials: American Heart Association.
Allan G. Holaday, 90, died Aug. 23 at Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home, Plymouth, Ind. Holaday was a UI professor of English literature, retiring in 1980.
Shirley A. Laley, 70, died Aug. 21 at her home in Tuscola. Laley was a former secretary for UI Extension. Memorials: Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 E. Van Allen St., Tuscola, IL 61953; or Provena Hospice Care Program, 1400 W. Park St., Urbana, IL 61801.
Helen Elizabeth McMorris, 95, died Aug. 17 at Brookstone Estates in Rantoul. McMorris worked as a secretary to the chief of the Illinois State Geological Survey for 44 years. Memorials: American Lutheran Church or Provena Hospice Care Program.
Jay Wesley Miller, 81, died Aug. 29 at his Champaign home. Miller worked at the UI for more than 23 years, retiring in 1987 as an assistant physical science technician in the department of physics. Memorials: Provena Hospice Care Program.
Lyman Gene Neef, 66, died Aug. 21 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Neef was an electrician at the UI for 35 years. Memorials: to Trustees of the Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 2201 CR 900 East, Champaign, IL 61822, or the Fairmount Conservation Club, P.O. Box 321, Catlin, IL 61817-0321.
Caldwell Hardy Oliver, 95, died Aug. 21 in Columbia, S.C. Oliver  worked as a staff architect from 1955 to 1972 at the UI, where he designed the University Band Building and served as an architectural liaison between the university and external architectural firms. Memorials: Still Hopes or Trinity Cathedral Foundation in Columbia.
Orville C. Pittman, 78, died Aug. 25 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Pittman worked at Willard Airport from 1946 to 1982. Memorials: Tolono United Methodist Church.
