Lois
W. Barham,
82, died Dec. 21 at Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana. Barham
worked at the UI from 1967 until 1979. She worked for the payroll
department, the School of Life Sciences and the Children’s

Alberta Mae Bement, 63, died
Dec. 23 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana. Bement worked
at the UI from 1985 until 1993. She was a secretary IV and worked
for psychology, the College of Business and the Office of Development.
Barbara Joanne Brandriff, 73,
died Dec. 18 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Brandriff was
a clerk II at the Illini Union bookstore, retiring in 1995 after
33 years. Memorials: Shriners Hospital for Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh
Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131-3597.
Nancy Sue Cox, 62, died Dec.
18 at Care Centre, Champaign. Cox worked at the UI for five years
as snack bar supervisor in the Housing Division. Memorials: American
Cancer Society or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Donald Edwin Erickson, 75,
died Dec. 26 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Erickson was
duplicating machine operator II for the UI College of Agricultural,
Consumer and Environmental Sciences for 14 years, retiring in
the mid-1990s.
Helen
Godfrey, 95,
died Dec. 20 at Clark-Lindsey Manor, Urbana. Godfrey worked for
the College of Business at the UI for 21 years, retiring in 1970.
She worked as an office supervisor and secretary I.
Daryl Lee “Big D” Goldenstein,
51, died Dec. 28 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Goldenstein
worked at Facilities and Services for more than 30 years as a
groundsworker. Memorials: American Heart and Lung Association
or St. John Lutheran Church, Royal.
F. Thomas Gothard, 87, died
Dec. 11 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Gothard worked
in the chemistry business office at the UI and retired in 1982.
Memorials: Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, or the Knoxville
United Methodist Church.
George Robert Grice, 88, died
June 28, 2005. Grice worked in the department of psychology for
more than 22 years. He began as an instructor in 1947, advancing
to professor in 1957.
Arthur F. Hagner, 94, died
Dec. 13 at his home in Stamford, Conn. Hagner retired as professor
emeritus of geology in 1974 after more than 25 years at the UI.
Robert L. Hanes, 78, died
Dec. 12 at his home in Urbana. Hanes worked at the UI for four
years as a building service worker for Facilities and Services.

Charles
Owen Hopkins, 80,
died Dec. 15 at his home in Monticello. Hopkins was a professor
emeritus of psychology. He worked at the UI from 1948 to 1952
as an assistant professor and counselor. He left the university,
returning in 1970 and staying until his retirement in 1993. At
the time of his retirement, he was a professor of psychology as
well as professor of aeronautical and astronautical engineering.
He also served as head of the Aviation Research Lab from 1973
to 1977 and was a professor in the Institute of Aviation from
1971 to 1977.
Linda S. Ides, 64, died Jan.
14 at Carle Foundation Hospital. Ides was a building service worker
in Facilities and Services from 1986 through 2001. Memorials:
Grace Baptist Church.
Marie P. Kay, 68, died Jan.
6 at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis. Kay was a staff secretary
in the dean’s office at the College of Education. She had
worked at the UI for more than 10 years. Memorials: National Multiple

Karen Krueger, 62, died Dec.
22 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Krueger retired in December
2002 as deputy director to the associate vice president for administration
and human resources. She worked at the UI for 35 years.
Adam A. Milani, 39, died May
16, 2005, in an Atlanta hospital. Milani
was a visiting assistant professor in the UI College of Law from
1985 to 1987.
Robert E. Nelson, 91, died
July 8, 2005, in Parkway Manor of Marion, Ill. Nelson retired
in 1976 as assistant professor emeritus of forestry extension.
He worked at the UI for nearly 25 years. Memorials: Hospice of

Vijay Pandharipande, 65, died
Jan. 3 in Boston. Pandharipande joined the UI department of physics
in 1972 and became a professor in 1975. In 2003, he was appointed
a professor and permanent member of the Center for Advanced Study.
In 2005, he was named a Donald Biggar Willett Professor in the
UI College of Engineering.
Harold Phelps, 84, died Dec.
24 at The Carle Arbours, Savoy. Phelps worked at the UI Physical
Plant as a bricklayer and mason for 35 years, retiring in 1984.

Opal V. Rexroad, 83, died
Dec. 6 at Moose Haven Lodge, Orange Park, Fla. Rexroad worked
at the UI for 18 years, retiring in 1982 as a clerk III for agricultural
economics.
Luther “Lou” W. Ricketts,
82, died Jan. 6 at Towne House Health Center, Fort
Wayne, Ind. Ricketts was an instructor in the department of electrical
engineering at the UI from 1955 to 1959. Memorials: Covenant United
Methodist Church, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Masako Secrest, 77, died Dec.
15 at her home in Urbana. Secrest worked at the UI for 13 years,
serving as a research associate at the Coordinated Science Lab
and later as an automated education specialist in the Computer-based
Education Research Laboratory. She left the UI in 1975.
Jack A. Simon, 86, died Dec.
17 at his Urbana home. Simon worked with the Illinois State Geological
Survey at the UI and retired as chief of the operation in 1982.
